In 24 hours, India reports 2,364 new COVID-19 cases

In India, 2,364 additional Covid cases were recorded, bringing the total number of infections to 4,31,29,563. The number of active cases has dropped to 15,419 in the previous 24 hours, according to the Union Health Ministry.

India also reported 10 more Covid-related deaths, increasing the total to 5,24,303.

In the last 24 hours, the active COVID-19 caseload has decreased by 228 cases.

The active cases comprised 0.04 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was 98.75 per cent, the health ministry said.

As per the ministry, the total number of doses provided in the country as part of the statewide COVID-19 immunisation effort has surpassed 191.65 crores.

On August 7, 2020, India’s COVID-19 tally surpassed 20 lakh, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5, and 50 lakh on September 16. It reached 60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11, 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20, and one crore on December 19, that year.

On May 4, India passed the dismal milestone of two crore instances, and three crore cases will be reached on June 23, 2021.

The Health Ministry emphasised that comorbidities were responsible for more than 70% of the fatalities.

“Our figures are being reconciled with the Indian Council of Medical Research,” the ministry said on its website, adding that the state-wise distribution of figures is subject to further verification and reconciliation.
