As the Southwest monsoon has already arrived in Andaman and Nicobar six days earlier than usual, it is also being predicted by IMD that pre-monsoon rain will soon hit Maharashtra. This news came as a new hope for all the people in Maharashtra who are struggling in the heatwave.
The IMD (Indian Meteorological Department) predicted rains with thunderstorms in some parts of Maharashtra till May 21. This includes Konkan, South Maharashtra and some parts of Marathwada.
The IMD has also predicted heatwave for Madhya Maharashtra and Vidharbha. On Tuesday (May 17), districts like Osmanabad, Satara, Sangli and Kolhapur experienced light rainfall with lightning and strong winds in the heatwave. Rain alert was also issued for Pune, Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur, Solapur, Osmanabad, Nanded, Latur, Nagpur, Bhandara, Gondia and Chandrapur on Wednesday (May 18).
IMD recorded the highest maximum temperature of 45°C in the Wardha district while the lowest was 18.4°C in Mahabaleshwar.
