According to Union Health Ministry data updated on Sunday, India recorded 2,226 new coronavirus infections, bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases to 4,31,36,371, with 14,955 active cases.
The death toll increased to 5,24,413 with 65 new deaths, according to figures updated at 8 a.m.
In the last 24 hours, the active COVID-19 caseload has decreased by 41 cases.
According to the ministry, the daily positivity rate was 0.50 percent and the weekly positivity rate was 0.50 percent.
The number of persons who have recovered from the sickness has risen to 4,25,97,003, with a case fatality rate of 1.22 percent.
The total number of doses provided in the country under the statewide COVID-19 immunisation effort has surpassed 192.28 crores.
On August 7, 2020, India’s COVID-19 tally surpassed 20 lakh, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5, and 50 lakh on September 16. It reached 60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11, 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20, and one crore on December 19.
Last year, the country passed the two crore mark on May 4 and the three crore mark on June 23. Among the 65 new deaths are 63 from Kerala and one each from Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.
“Our figures are being reconciled with the Indian Council of Medical Research,” the ministry said on its website, adding that the state-wise distribution of figures is subject to further verification and reconciliation.
