Droupadi Murmu takes oath as the 15th President of India

President elect Droupadi Murmu took her oath as the 15th President of India at the Central Hall of Parliament. Chief Justice of India NV Ramana administered the oath of office of the highest constitutional post of the country to Murmu.

The oath-taking ceremony was followed by a 21-gun salute after which Murmu addressed the gathering at the Central Hall as the 15th President of India.

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, and other dignitaries were also present on the occasion.

Before her oath-taking ceremony, Outgoing President Ramnath Kovind and his wife Savita Kovind extended greetings to Droupadi Murmu.

She is the 2nd woman President of the country, the first-ever tribal woman to hold the highest Constitutional post and also the first President to be born in independent India.

During her speech, she said, “Reaching the post of President is not my personal achievement, it is the achievement of every poor in India. I want to tell the youth of our country that you are not only building your future but also laying the foundation of future India. As the President of the country, I will always have your full cooperation”.
