Ahead of the Ganesh festival that is about to begin exactly a month later, i.e August 31, the Pune Police Department on Wednesday called a special meeting for the maintenance of law and order and citizens’ safety, following which they issued a notification regarding this year’s celebrations and guidelines for the 10-day celebrations.
The major Ganapati mandals have suggested changes in the guidelines as for the past 2 years they had many restrictions due to COVID 19 pandemic. As per the notification issued, here are the guidelines the mandals have to follow:
- Two box kamans will be permitted per Ganapati mandal. Each kaman with advertisements on it will be limited to a height of 20ft.
- No running mandap will be permitted this year and the major income for the mandals will be advertisements.
- For the 5th, 6th, 7th, 9th and 10th days, loudspeakers will be permitted only between 6 am and 12 am.
- No loudspeakers will be allowed within a distance of 100 metre from hospitals, educational institutions, courts and medical clinics.
The Ganapati mandals on the other hand made their demands to allow more ads on kamans as it is the major source of revenue for them. They also demanded if the venue of the pandal has been the same for the last many years along with necessary permissions, the police should extend permission for the next 5 years.
They have also asked that loudspeakers be allowed to play till 12am on the last five days of the festival.
